It has been a pretty good week. Even though we didn't win both games, I had fun playing softball Saturday... Yea that's right; I just said I had fun playing softball… WOW!! I really think it makes a big difference when you are playing for God, and putting Him before anything else. This past summer I had lots of time to reflect and listen to God. He really showed me the purpose of softball in my life, and it has changed my whole aspect. I am so thankful He did that because if He would not have revealed that to me, it would still be controlling my life.
I have been really thinking about how blessed I am. God has given me an amazing family... Words can't even describe how awesome they are, and how perfectly God fit us all together. I am also so thankful for my amazing friends that constantly set examples of how to live Godly lives. Lately, I have really been struggling with trusting God's plan. My mom and best friend Camrie have been so helpful. They are constantly sending positive thoughts my way, and uplifting me with their prayers. What a difference it makes when you have people constantly encouraging you, and keeping a smile on your face. I'm thankful that they both know me well enough to see that I am struggling, and that they care enough to encourage me through it.
Today we had an all worship chapel and those are my favorite!!! I love jut being able to sing songs to God surrounded by my peers that are doing the same thing. Being surrounded by such amazing Christians all the time is rare, and I am going to take advantage of it while I can! :)
In my spiritual life I have really been trying to give everything to The Lord, and just letting Him be the one who satisfies me, and who I find my joy in. I want to fall more in love with Him every day. At kamp (yes I know I spelt that with a k) during our rest time I remember reading about the Alabaster Box (Mark 14). Basically what happened was a woman broke her alabaster jar with expensive perfume on Jesus' head. What this represented was her giving all she had to Him. That expensive perfume was worth one year of her salary, and she gave it all up. I think this is one of the coolest things because she sacrificed one of the most precious/important things in her life. In return Jesus praised her selfless act of worship. I want to be like this. I want to give Jesus everything that is most precious in my life. Because when you really really think about, compared to Jesus, nothing is as precious!
That’s where I am this week... Sorry rant and rave about my opinions on the world this time! Haha! Maybe next week something will fire me up. J I am going home this weekend and I CANT WAIT!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au3EGgISYMc This is one of my favorte worship songs.. He is just waiting for you to run to His arms!
The shoutout this week goes to the bomb.com/amazing MARIA JOY MCKINNY! Maria is my 4th roomie and she filled in the missing piece of our party suite and hearts! :) haha. She is one of the funniest people I know, and I really enjoy her company. She has a great heart, and is so kind. Moments in our dorm room would not be as funny without her! Plus she is an awesome roomie because she deals with all of our craziness and even joins in. She is my favorite freshman fo sho and I'm so glad she joined the 416! I look forward to getting to know her better this year! Favorite Maria quote, "What am I chopped liver?"
p.s
Maria can I tag along with you please? hahahaha

It's getting better
Tonight I had the opportunity to go to a fundraiser dinner for Teen Challenge. There are several Teen Challenges located across the United States, but this one is designed to help women get over their addictions. Along with helping counseling them through that process, they share the love of Christ. During the dinner the women got up and sang some worship songs. It brought tears to my eyes because you could see how Christ had come into their lives and healed them and their baggage. Sometimes the world can get you down when you want so badly for changes to happen and the world to become a better place, and it just seems like it is getting worse and than nothing you can do will help. But tonight was one of those nights when you are proven wrong. All though it may be baby steps... the world is getting better. 20+ women would not have given their life to The Lord and gotten rid or their additions if it wasn't. One of my dreams is to inspire women and to teach them that they are loved, and deserve to have self worth. After seeing the women tonight it made me more inspired. I feel like it was one of those times God gives you the little push you need to actually hear what He is trying to tell you. And for me, those happen a lot because sometimes I lack listening skills... Just ask my parentals... hahah
Tomorrow I am going to a (don’t freak out) sex addiction conference... I am going with some people in my social work major and our professors… This topic is very foreign to me, and it will be rather interesting to learn about… And it will probably make me uncomfortable... But hey these people need help and love to. Jesus didn't just call us to be comfortable...
So my very AWESOME friend and roomie Kari Tall-Domingos wants me to blog about her, which is an easy thing to do since she is so AWESOME! (Like I said before) I think of it as an amazing blessing that I have a friend that sees the world the same way as I do. We have very similar goals and dreams, and I love being able to share those with her. We are both social work majors and want to help people. She has a great heart and the ability to love anyone. She is a great friend, has an amazing walk with God, and is just a fun/spunky person to be around. I am constantly getting an ab workout because of how hard she makes me laugh. And I love her lots! :)

What Would You Do?
So this morning in my Social Policy Class (which I love) we watched the latest episode of What Would You Do? I'm not sure how to rate it because it was good/bad in different ways. The first part of the episode is what really stood out to me... It was about domestic violence and it spoke volumes about how we interpret and value different situations. I am going to post the link so be sure to watch it... It’s about 50 min long, but the part I will be talking about is in the first 15 minutes... Honestly you HAVE to watch it... I think what you see will shock you and I think it is important to see how wrong one of the situations was so we can do better.
There were 4 different scenes acted out in which the woman is clearly being abused. The first was a white couple that was dressed normal and seemed like an everyday couple except that the woman had bruises all over her face and body and she was being screamed at. The other scene was exactly the same except the couple was African American. The third couple was the white couple again, except this time the woman was dressed in "scandalous clothes" that could suggest she was a prostitute. The last scene the same as the third, only it was the African American couple again.
http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_feminism/94984.html ( watch the first box, and then the second)
Scene 1- It was amazing to see the married could jump in and help, and then later more men joined in. This situation was played out perfectly because people actually jumped in and helped out…Which is what we should all be doing for each other all the time, no matter the situation..
Scene 2- This scene was also good... Two women noticed the beating and took the first chance they could to go talk to the woman who was being abused and when the boyfriend came back they stood up to him... How awesome is it that women stood up to a man larger than them, that has a history of being abusive... They put themselves in harm’s way to help... and that is awesome... I have to wonder though... Why were there no men in this scene? I would hope that at anytime men actually saw a woman being abused they would step in to stop it...
Scene 3 and Scene 4- These scenes break my heart... It really shows where we have our values and who we determine as worthy to be helped or not... Because these women were dressed more scandalous, maybe like they were prostitutes they did not receive the help like scene 1 and 2 did. Two things really stand out and make me upset... 1- Because they looked like prostitutes they didn't deserve help... Well the last time I checked NO ONE deserves to be abused.. Just because someone may not have a job that is determined acceptable by society does not mean they deserve to be beaten... I understand that not everyone believes in Christianity and what the Bible says... But Jesus hung out with prostitutes, and people that were not socially “acceptable”... If they were acceptable to Him then why aren't they to us? We should help everyone. We have not right to determine is worthy and who is not. 2- Some people had the actual nerves to say “THIS is not the PLACE for THAT”... Why didn't they say, "THERE is never a PLACE for THIS" I mean really... That breaks my heart because it just goes to show that we have made very little progress in women's rights... Women have rights, and being abused is not one of them. Unfortunately most domestic abuse occurs behind closed doors, so if you see a little of it in public, I suggest you do something because if they do that openly in public think about how much worse it is behind closed doors…
I am so thankful for this show because I feel like it's showing us that we do not handle things the way we should. I hope it challenges us to make a change and become the society we need to be in every aspect. We do do not help out our neighbor when we should. I know a lot of times the controversy is, "I don’t think it is my business to get involved" Well let me tell you, when innocent people are being hurt... It is our job to make it our business. Often times we are the only help for people that are being abused... Abusers often isolate the person they are hurting so it is easier for them to get away with it and it makes them feel powerful. Abused have no way of getting help because they have no one and they have been isolated from society.. They DEPEND on us! Pick up the phone and call 911, or confront them yourself... Just make sure you do something..

So this is my first ever blog!
So I feel kinda funny/weird writing my first ever blog.. I'm not really sure what exactly made me want to blog, I just know that one day I was like, "I think I'm going to start a blog"... So here I am writing in my own personal blog. :) My least favorite classes in school are English classes, so I'm sure this will not be anywhere close to bring grammatically correct. I’m actually writing some of this while I am in an english class.. Whoops! Basically I just want to organize my thoughts, and give myself something to share my opinion with other than in my mind, and my roomies who probably get tired when they hear the "Kasey sigh" because they know that's when I'm going to share what is on my mind.. So without further ado, here comes my first blogged thought... hahah
Being a junior in college is a funny thing. I’m an upperclassman, I know what I want to do with my life, and I have aspirations and dreams… In high school I never really had a clue. I’m not afraid to admit it. J School was my least favorite thing and the real reason for going to college was because of softball… It’s amazing to see how everything has done a complete 360. I love being a student now and I find joy and excitement when I get to go to my social work classes. God has taught me so much this past year and I feel like I have gotten to a turning point. I have seen how true and great his faithfulness is, and I have seen that no matter what, His plan is the perfect one... No matter how much I would like my plan to be the best, it’s just not… And sometimes that is hard for me because I like claiming my independence and doing my own thing J Over and over again God reminds me of Jeremiah 29:11. Over and over again when something I want doesn’t happen, God keeps reminding me, “Kasey just be patient and trust me, I have plans for you”. So that’s where I am right now… Trusting fully in God’s plan even if at the times it’s not what I want. I’m so thankful for my amazing family and friends who live this out every day and who set great spiritual examples.
Sooo that is it for now! My sister is here and I wanna hang with her! I’ll be back with more blogging soon!
